'Not To Be Taken' is a study of glass and light. I wanted to bring vintage and contemporary elements together in this piece, so I used a dip pen and ink with a more contemporary dotwork application, striving to make it reminiscent of antique sketches you sometimes find in National Trust properties and in antique shops. I wanted the light, reflections, letters and shape of the bottle (which is currently in my collection) to really come through. I then gave it a contemporary, pop-art, solid-colour background in gouache, but left a hint of the thick paint application in the brush strokes. I framed it as though you would indeed find it in the National Trust, with a thick textured mount and antique-reminiscent frame. I see it in a gallery wall among a larger but eclectic art collection and photographs: a modern take on a found antique. There are two others in this collection, and though 'Poison I' one is currently not for sale on this website as it is being considered for display in an exhibition, you can find it on the 'Fine Art' page of this website.
